The Automatic Tray Return System (ATRS) is an integral part of modern airport security checkpoints, designed to automatically circulate and return security trays. Passengers place their carry-on items into trays before screening. After passing through the X-ray screening process, empty trays are automatically conveyed back to the checkpoint entrance for reuse.
ATRS reduces manual tray handling, improves checkpoint efficiency, and ensures a continuous and orderly supply of trays. The system can be integrated with X-ray screening equipment, automatic diversion and secondary screening functions, and typically incorporates sensors and control systems for automatic tray detection, conveying, buffering, and recirculation. It is particularly suitable for high-throughput airport security screening lanes.
